The KA Group is a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of earthmoving scrapers and accessories for the construction, mining, and agricultural industries. The Company is composed of three brands, namely K-TEC, Ashland, and Metalcraft, with the brands’ products being differentiated by size, target markets, and the technologies offered. KA Group maintains manufacturing and warehouse facilities in Manitoba and Wisconsin.

The Assembly Technician position is critical to our success, overseeing the completion and quality control of our manufactured products. This role involves not only assembling and inspecting finished goods, but also includes operating blasting equipment to prepare parts for final assembly. The ideal candidate will be adept with various hand and power tools, capable of switching between different tasks seamlessly, and committed to maintaining high standards in workmanship, safety, and cleanliness.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Assembly Duties:

  • Perform forklift operation and material handling.
  • Assemble a wide range of products according to blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Have a sense of quality products and conduct final quality control checks to ensure all products meet company and industry standards.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills and processes. Show a proven commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Assist in loading and unloading trucks with finished products, ensuring proper handling and safety procedures.
  • Utilize a variety of hand and power tools (e.g., impact guns, presses, grinders) to complete assembly tasks efficiently.
  • Follow ISO standards and maintain high levels of safety and housekeeping throughout the shift.
  • Provide good customer service & communicate skills (read, write, speak, listen and understand work instructions).
  • Perform rigging and overhead crane operations.
  • Basic computer skills to complete job costing and input of other data crucial to tracking KPIs.
  • Additional duties as assigned to support the goals of the team and organization.

Blasting Duties:

  • Shot-Blast product and parts to remove mill scale to provide proper profile.
  • Operate blast booth to clean, strip, or prepare surfaces per job specifications.
  • Adjust blasting equipment settings to achieve desired results while minimizing material waste.
  • Light maintenance includes cleaning booth, loading grit, changing filters.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and proper handling techniques for blasting operations.
  • Regularly inspect blasting equipment for signs of wear and perform necessary maintenance or report issues as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills and a proactive approach to completing tasks.
  • Capacity to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted as required.
  • Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Effectively and safely operate a variety of assigned tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to abrasive blasting.

 QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred 2 Years manufacturing experience.
  • Proven experience in an assembly role, with a strong understanding of blueprints and technical documents.
  • Hands-on experience with various hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with blasting equipment and procedures is highly desirable.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities throughout the shift.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Experience with ISO standards or similar quality management systems is a plus.
  • Experience in forklift operation.
  • Experience in rigging and overhead crane operation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The role involves working in a noisy, dusty environment and requires standing, bending, and lifting for extended periods.
  • May require occasional overtime and weekend work depending on production schedules.
  • 4 day/10-hour shift work week

We are seeking a skilled Level II Welder to join our team with proven expertise in welding and fabricating complex steel assemblies. The ideal candidate will have experience in MIG welding and a strong mechanical inclination, the ability to install rough and finish components into mobile platforms, follow architectural blueprints, and adhere to high standards of workmanship and safety.  The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to layout and weld intricate assemblies with minimal supervision, ensuring high-quality results that meet end-use design requirements. This role demands advanced welding skills, fabrication abilities, and a keen eye for detail.

Key duties and Responsibilities

  • Welding: Perform MIG welding on steel structural tubing and complex assemblies, adhering to AWS D1.1 and D1.2 standards to build various structural components, assemblies, and scrapers.
  • Complex Fabrication: Demonstrate the ability to layout and weld complicated steel assemblies. Manage heat build-up, distortion, and stack-up, and maintain squareness.
  • Part Fabrication: Fabricate parts to meet specific end-use design requirements, ensuring functionality and accuracy.
  • Installation: Install rough and finished components into mobile platforms accurately and efficiently.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret architectural blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Measurement: Take precise measurements and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper fit and alignment of components.
  • Tool Proficiency: Operate common power and pneumatic tools effectively, including drills, skill saws, jig saws, routers, grinders, sanders, and torque wrenches.
  • Quality and Efficiency: Perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision, demonstrate high-quality workmanship and efficiency with attention to detail, particularly when working with finish surfaces and materials.
  • Compliance: Adhere to all workmanship standards, safety policies, housekeeping requirements, and ISO standards.
  • Basic problem solving with an understanding of root cause analysis.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a CNC Machinist and Programmer at K.A. Group, you will be responsible for operating CNC machines and programming them to produce high-quality components for our scraper manufacturing process. This is a hands-on role that requires expertise in machining techniques, precision, and a deep understanding of CNC programming. You will work with advanced CNC machinery, including lathes and mills, to create parts that meet the strict specifications and quality standards of our products.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set up and operate CNC machines such as lathes, mills, and grinders to produce components according to blueprints, specifications, and job orders.
• Select appropriate tools, inserts, and fixtures for each job and perform tool changes as necessary.
• Program CNC machines using CAD/CAM software such as MasterCam, Inventor HSM, Fusion 360 or similar programs to efficiently produce parts with tight tolerances.
• Monitor machine operations to ensure parts are being produced within specified dimensions and quality standards.
• Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
• Inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to verify conformance to specifications.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and production personnel to optimize manufacturing processes and resolve any issues that arise during production.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment to ensure a safe and efficient workplace.
• Performs routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
• Production and efficiency, responsible to achieve the daily standards
• 5S- Maintain a clean and organized work area and maintain all equipment, to a like new appearance, according to maintenance plans and established procedures.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations and measurements accurately.
